Running long distances

Being a marathon runner requires a lot of discipline, heart, focus and desire. I only really started running during the Fall of 2008...on a dare. Being a race walker for a few years, I never dreamed of actually running a 21k race. I did and it felt great. I ran three more 21k races since then.

Every day when I train, I have a rough idea of how far I will run. Sometimes I just throw caution to the wind and "treat" myself to an extra 10k over and above my planned distance. This is not easy to do but it is rewarding. When you consider that I may run 25-32k instead of 10-15, you really have to push yourself to actually fiinish intact. When you do a 42k marathon you had better be prepared for what may happen. Doing at least one long run a week seems fine by me.
